Margaret Ruth Lyon Pegariek
May 13, 1925–April 8, 2009
Margaret R. Pegariek, 83, of South Amana and formerly of Olin, Iowa, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A celebration of her life was held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin, with Pastor Pat Slater officiating. Burial was in the Olin Cemetery, Olin, Iowa. Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin.
Margaret Ruth Lyon was born on May 13, 1925 in Wyoming, Iowa, daughter of Edgar Eugene and Gladys Harriet (Clark) Lyon. She grew up in Jones and Linn Counties and attended school in Viola, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Alfred Pegariek on January 6, 1948 in Rock Island, Illinois. Alfred died in August of 1999.
After their marriage, she and Alfred farmed in Center Junction, from 1954 to 1975 and moved to Olin until 1994, and then Margaret lived with her daughter in South Amana. She had worked for Monty Produce and Family Foods in Anamosa for several years. She enjoyed sewing, especially quilting.
She is survived by three daughters, Rita (Bill) Matthews of Bettendorf, Reva Finley of Cedar Rapids and Rena (Scott) Emmert of South Amana; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia (George) Zirkelbach of Olin, Elaine Husmann of Mechanicsville, and Doris (Dean) Tenley of Stanwood, and two brothers, Robert (Bonnie) Lyon of Center Junction and Darwin (Darlene) Lyon of Maquoketa.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, one sister and two brothers.
