Donald Lee Mackey

Donald L. Mackey, 75, of Olin, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Olin Community United Methodist Church in Olin. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Burial will be in the Olin Cemetery, Olin, Iowa, at a later date.
Donald Lee Mackey was born on July 18, 1936 in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Howard and Leona (Rohwedder) Mackey. He graduated from Olin High School in 1953. He married Barbara Holub on January 19, 1958 in Wyoming, Iowa.
Donald was a hog buyer for thirty-four years, working for Wilsons, Heinhold and IBP. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Olin. He was a volunteer EMT for Olin Ambulance and a 4-H leader for Olin Hawkeyes.
Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara Mackey of Marion; seven children, Jim (Dar Smoleck) Mackey of Mechanicsville, Jacki (Jim) Luckstead of Anamosa, Jeri (Mike) Hartl of Mechanicsville, Jeff Mackey of Stanwood, Mike (Jill) Mackey of Blum, Texas, Michelle (Curt Gauley) Mackey of Marion, and Jo Merrick of Tuscon, Arizona; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry Mackey of Farley and Lyle (Lorraine) Mackey of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
