Thomas Sidney Main
Septemebr 25, 1836–May 2, 1892
Thomas Sidney Main was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, Septemebr 25, 1836, and died May 2, 1892. He came to Iowa in 1854 and soon after was employed by a government surveying party, carrying the leveler's rod for two years. Among the surveys made was the present route of the Northwestern railroad. In 1858 he was married to Miss Jane Day and to them were born thirteen children, twelve yet living. During the civil war he was drafted, but on reaching Davenport was released. Since that time he has resided in Jones county and most of the time in Jackson township. The last few years of his life he was afflicted with kidney trouble. His remains were interred in Forest Hill cemetery.
