Velda Addie Mairie McCormick
June 16, 1939 – July 5, 2018
Velda McCormick, 79, of Olin passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018, in the Hospice Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Her funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olin with a visitation before from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial was at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Monticello. Lahey & Dawson Funeral Service assisted the family at this time.
Velda Addie Mairie was born on June 16, 1939, in Manchester to Paul and Lorna (Gienapp) Christiansen. She graduated from Coggon High School. For almost fifty-five years, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry McCormick. For many years, she worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids.
Velda was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olin. She enjoyed puzzles, watching TV, attending to her flowers and rock garden. She spent much of her time playing and relaxing with her kittens. For many years, she sold AVON in the Olin Community.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Larry; son Rodney McCormick of Olin; daughter, Rebecca McCormick of Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Ruth Kray of Anamosa and Edna Behneke of Prairieburg; and a brother, Laverne McCormick of Alburnett.
She was greeted in heaven by her parents and a brother, Marvin.
