Lydia Marie Marek Yarolem

Lydia M. Yarolem, 100, of Maquoketa, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life was held on Friday, May 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell officiating. Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where a vigil service was held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation was also held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at the church. Burial was in the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction, Iowa.
Lydia Marie Marek was born September 26, 1910 in Olenice, Bohemia, to Vit and Bessie (Vasatova) Marek. Her parents brought her and her twin brother, James on a ship to the United States at the age of three.
Her family lived on farms in the Monmouth and Oxford Junction areas. She married George B. Yarolem on June 6, 1932 in Oxford Junction, Iowa. They farmed near Monmouth, Iowa. George died on October 30, 1979.
Lydia is survived by four children, Ronald (Sue) Yarolem of Bettendorf, Vivian (Ernest) Redmond of Davenport, Arlo Yarolem of Maquoketa and Rosemary (Roger) Dreismeier of Springville; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandchild, one great grandchild, her twin brother, James Marek, and a sister, Anna Knake on February 21, 2011.
