Daniel J. Matula, 67, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center following a battle with Melanoma.
Private family services will be at a later date. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, is caring for Daniel and his family.
Surviving is a daughter Abbey (Doug) Faust, Anamosa; four granddaughters, Jade, Justine, Jenna and Emma; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister; and he also had a brother. He was married to Karla Gorman, Cedar Rapids, (Abbey’s mother) from 1976 until 1982.
Daniel Joseph Matula was born January 31, 1950, at Dubuque. He was the son of Edward and Bonnie (Wilson) Matula. He received his education in the Le Grand and Marshalltown schools, and he graduated in 1968.
Daniel then started his forty-plus year career with the Hy-Vee Food Stores. He worked first in Marshalltown and then transferred to the Cedar Rapids Hy-Vee on Mount Vernon Road and then spent the last twenty-plus years at the Hy-Vee in Macomb, Illinois. He retired in October 2016. Dan was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
