Helen Arline Miller Jorgensen
August 11, 1923 – October 21, 2015
Helen Arline Jorgensen, 92, of Onslow, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Visitation will be Friday, October 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming, Iowa. The funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24 at Calvary Baptist Church in Onslow, followed by burial at the Wyoming Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Onslow Community Room.
Helen was born in Harlan, Iowa on August 11, 1923 to Christian Miller and Myrtle Nelson. She completed twelve years of schooling and married Kenneth D. Jorgensen on April 4, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked as a homemaker and was an owner-operator of Onslow Grocery Store. She also worked for Big Bills Feed and Fertilizer, as well as DeKalb Feeds.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church serving as Sunday school teacher, superintendent and church secretary. She was married to her sweetheart, Kenneth for sixty two years. Together they loved and raised four (exceptional!) children, Linda, Tom, John and Jim. They watched their family grow to include their children’s spouses, eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren.
Helen was a beautiful woman of great determination, dedication and hard work. She was a giving person who had an amazing passion for helping and serving others. Her love was as abundant her energy. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ whom she served in many ways, both known and unknown, to those she ministered to. She never backed away from an opportunity to share her faith with those around her.
In spite of her slowly deteriorating condition, her attitude was relentlessly positive. She never gave up trying to get better and now she truly is “better,” as she has completed her ninety-second year journey to Jesus. Hers was a life well-lived.
Helen is survived by her children, Lee (Linda) Swenson, Orem, Utah, Tom (Laurie) Jorgensen, Kansas City, Kansas, John (Linda) Jorgensen, Clinton and Jim (Tina) Jorgensen, Tipton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Jorgensen; her parents, Christian and Myrtle; a grandson, Michael Swenson; and seven brothers and sisters.
