James Mitchell Buried Sunday

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 at the Methodist church Martelle for James L. Mitchell, highly respected resident of Jones County, who died Friday morning at the Mercy Hospital in Anamosa , following a short illness. Rev. Cecil R. Miller of Olin conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Claude Runner. The Loder Funeral Home was in charge of the burial, which was in the family lot in the Norwich cemetery. Casket bearers were Harry Holcomb, C. K. Gordon, C. V. Newman, C. L. Merfield, G. J. Armstrong and A. L. Hoffman.

Obituary

James L. Mitchell. Long resident of Jones County, was born January 15, 1848 near Zanesville, Ohio, the son of James and Mary Mitchell. He was married on November 1872 to Arminda Onstott at Blue Rock, Ohio, and moved to a farm south of Martelle and resided in this vicinity until time of his death.
He is preceded in death by his wife, a son, Emmett, and a daughter, Cora. Survivors are a son, Alvin of Martelle, two grandsons, Elmer and Harold Mitchell of La Platta, Missouri; three granddaughters, Mrs. Virgil Johnson of Davenport and Gayle and Jean Mitchell of Martelle. He also leaves five great-grandchildren and many friends.
