Shirley M. Moore Winegar

Shirley M. Winegar, 83, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday morning September 22, 2016, at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
A celebration of Shirley’s life was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Maquoketa. There was no visitation and burial was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Shirley M. Moore was the youngest of five children born on January 12, 1933 in Monticello, Iowa, to Thomas Eugene and Millie (Webster) Moore. She grew up in Canton and attended Maquoketa schools. She married Guy Douglas Winegar on July 20, 1951, in Maquoketa, Iowa. To this union four children were born; Larry, Warren, Craig and Bob.
Shirley had worked at the Jackson County Hospital in Maquoketa for over thirty-six years, first as a nurse’s aide and lastly as a ward clerk.
Shirley was a member of the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Maquoketa, Eagle’s Club and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed camping, bowling in her younger years, traveling to Las Vegas, and going to casinos. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor Shirley’s memory include her husband, Doug Winegar of Maquoketa, children; Larry (Diane) Winegar of Jefferson City, Missouri, Warren (Deb) Winegar of Fairbury, Illinois, Craig (Wendy) Winegar of Maquoketa, and Bob (Audrey) Winegar of Maquoketa; eleven grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchldren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Galen, Tom and Dale, and a sister Margaret Wosoba.
