James J. Murray, 69, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his home.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Funeral services and burial for James will be private.
James J. Murray was born February 13, 1942 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Thomas and Emily (Herrig) Murray. He graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1960 and went on to attend Iowa State University. He married Mary Husmann on October 1, 1966 at Sacred Heart Church in Vicar Hall in Oxford Junction.
James farmed in Oxford Junction until 1997. He also worked for APAC and at Family Dollar in Maquoketa, in maintenance for eight years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction, had served as secretary-treasurer of Iowa Herford Association, served on the board of the Coop in Lost Nation and the Oxford Junction School. James had been inducted into the Jones County Cattleman Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Murray of Oxford Junction; two sons, Kevin Murray, Oxford Junction and Kyle Murray of New York, New York; and two sisters, Carol Hodgden of Marion and Patricia (Dave) Belew of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Delbert Hodgden.
