Joseph E. O'Rourke

Joe E. O'Rourke Died at His Home On Fourth Street, Saturday, Dec. 28
The untimely death of Joseph Edward O'Rourke occurred at his lhome on Fourth street last Saturday morning at 3 o'clock. He had not been in the best of health, but had been able to work until December 22. Recently he had been employed as caretaker in the Iowa Electric Company's power house. He had held this position for five years. On Sunday he worked until midnight, when he was relieved. Upon returning home he complained of feeling ill and his condition became rapidly worse until death ensued.
Mr. O'Rourke had also been employed by tlie Standard Oil company for a period of three years before he entered the service of the electric company. His employers found him a conscientious and valued employe who did his work well, and was painstaking in tlie tasks assigned him.
Mr. O'Rourke was a son of the late Joseph and Katharine O'Rourke. He was born in Castle Grove township April 6, 1890. He grew to young manhood on a farm and attended tlie rural schools nearby. He was married October 15, 1913, to Alice Brady. They started housekeeping on a farm in Castle Grove township, where their home was made until their removal to Monticello. Four children were born to this union. Prank, Marcella, Catherine, and Artliur. All of the children live at home with their mother.
Other survivors of Mr. O'Rourke include a brother John O'Rourke of Hopkinton, a sister, Mrs. Maggie Corcoran of Monticello, and a half-sister, Mrs. Kate Glenn of Lexington, Mass. Funeral services were held by Rev. A. L. Lorenz at the Sacred Heart church last Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Following the mass Mr. O'Rourke was burled in the Sacred Heart cemetery. He was an active member of the Sacred Heart church, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus order. His unexpected passing is a decided blow to his wife and four children. As a devoted husband and father, he will be sadly missed.
