Judy Jo Oldorf Rohwedder
April 27, 1945–May 22, 2009
Judy J. Rohwedder, 64, of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous 16 year battle with cancer.
A celebration of her life was held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, with Pastor Bob Wessels officiating. Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Interment was at the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the church.
Honorary Pallbearers were Shirley Petersen, Barb Hayden and Doni Lineburg. Pallbearers were Cameron Sorgenfrey, Andrew Buck, Jeff Rogers, Scott Jackson, Forbes Oldorf and Chris DeWolf.
Judy Jo Oldorf was born April 27, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Jean (Vandeberg) Oldorf. She grew up on a farm outside of Stanwood, and graduated from Lincoln High School. She married Thomas Lee Rohwedder on November 16, 1963 and resided on the Rohwedder family farm outside of Wyoming. Tom and Judy moved to Wyoming in 2005.
Judy had been actively involved in the church, serving on many committees, as well being a Bible and Sunday school teacher. Judy loved traveling with her husband in their motorhome, and was happy to achieve her dream of visiting 48 states, Canada and Mexico. She also enjoyed taking pictures and spending time with her family and friends.
Judy was a strong, sweet, selfless person who was dearly loved by her family and friends, and whose courage was admired by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Surviving are Judy?s husband of 45 years, Tom; her mother, Jean Oldorf of Clarence; children, Kim (Jerry) Sorgenfrey of Wyoming and Noelle (Damon) Vaughn of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Kayla (Andrew) Buck, Cameron Sorgenfrey, Christopher Chester, and Jozie Vaughn; her mother-in-law, Hazel Rohwedder of Anamosa; a brother-in-law, Lonnie (Shirley) Rogers; two sisters-in-law, Donna Oldorf and Jean (Royce) Schneider; and six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Oldorf in 1994, her borther, Dennis Oldorf in 2005, her sister-in-law, Judy Rogers in 1993, her granddaughter, Lilly Vaughn in 2006, and her father-in-law, Richard Rohwedder.
