Joanne Gayle Otten Tapken Heick
June 27, 1933–February 12, 2015
Joanne Heick, 81, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. A visitation was held on Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa after the luncheon.
Joanne Gayle Otten was born on June 27, 1933 in Monticello to parents Gerd and Elizabeth (Cooper) Otten. She was united in marriage to Richard Tapken in November 1951. She was united in marriage on May 25, 1974 to Charles Heick in Rock Island, Illinois.
In her earlier years, Joanne worked for the telephone company, WMT Radio, Anamosa Journal Town Crier, Albaugh Photography, St. Luke's Hospital and helped her husband farm. She was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in DeWitt. She enjoyed dancing, driving tractor, gardening and canning, bird watching and camping. She loved cooking and baking and was known for her homemade fudge.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Charles, her children; Doug (Sharon) Tapken, Spokane, Washington, David (Cathy) Tapken, Medical Lake, Washington and Julie (David) Beuthien, DeWitt, Iowa, her step-son, Scott (Vicki) Heick, Lowden, Iowa, sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, her sister, Nancy (Roger) Digmann, Monticello, Iowa, and her brother, Wilbur (Chantal) Otten, Vancouver, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Tapken and an infant sister.
