Herbert J. Peiffer, 81, of Onslow, Iowa, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at 3:34 a.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade.
Friends and relatives called from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. Services for Herbert were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 24 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Temple Hill, with Rev. Douglas Loecke presiding. Eucharistic Ministers were Mary Irene Peiffer and Jean Conrad. Lector was Doris Porter. Mass servers were Ryan Oswald, Ben Oswald and Nathan Oswald. Placing of the Pall was done by Danny Peiffer, Ben Peiffer and Cassie Isaac. Giftbearers were Alyssa Isaac and Cathy Pieper. Burial was at St. Peter's Cemetery at Temple Hill.
Honorary pallbearers were Luke and Charlene Tracy, Dwight and Ann Reid, Doug and Diane Brown, Logan and Karla Marr, Wayne and Judy Potter, Paul and Cindy Heim, Chuck Pierce, Roger Koos and Carl and Donna Koppes.
Casketbearers for Herbert were Marcus Myers, Devon Peiffer, Daniel Isaac, Steve Peiffer, Austin Isaac, Gary Peiffer, Zach Peiffer, and Ken Peiffer.
Herbert was born October 9, 1932 at Temple Hill, Iowa, a son of John N. and Frances M. (Koob) Peiffer. He received his education at Temple Hill School. He was employed as a Logger and Mechanic at Bahl Lumber in Oxford Junction. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish in Temple Hill.
He is survived by three children, Danny Peiffer of Sabula, Benjamin (Teresa) Peiffer of Mount Pleasant, and Cassie (Danny) Isaac of Cedar Rapids; a step-son, William "Butch" Ellison of Fairview; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Irene Peiffer of Onslow, and a brother, Donald (Agnes) Peiffer of East Troy, WI; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Peiffer of Cascade, IA and Pat Peiffer of Minonk, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Merlin, Nicholas and Joseph Peiffer.
