Johanna Petersen Koranda

Johanna Koranda, 102, of Oxford Junction and Maquoketa passed away on July 2, 2017, at Maquoketa Care Center.
Funeral Services were held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oxford Junction on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Tom Reuss will officiate. Visiting hours will be held at the church prior to the funeral beginning at 9:00 a.m. Lahey Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Johanna Koranda was born January 7, 1915, in Husum, Germany to Johannes and Pauline (Conrad) Petersen. She was the youngest of six children. The family immigrated to America in 1923, settling near relatives in Jones County, Iowa. She married Otto Koranda on September 11, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. The couple lived their entire married life in Oxford Junction.
Surviving are her children; Michael (Tina) Koranda of Datil, New Mexico, Noel (Bette) Koranda of Kirkwood, Missouri, Jean (Gerald) Drendel of Streator, Illinois and Molly Koranda of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren; Nick (Aileen), Nevin (Paula) and Mary Koranda, Johanna (Cory) Crossett, Michael and Patrick (Nicole) Koranda, Mark and Michael (Rebecca) Drendel, and Erika (Steve) Van Zandt, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Johanna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandsons, and her beloved sisters, Ann Paulsen, Christine Ketchum, Toni Babcook Hahn, Magda Hartwig and brother Pete Petersen.
Throughout her 102 years Johanna remained kind to all, appreciative of all that was done for her, inclusive to strangers and newcomers, and a proud and thankful citizen of her adopted country. She remained happy with a wonderful sense of humor.
The family wishes to thank Johanna's many kind and attentive neighbors, friends, and relatives who visited her and remembered her with cards and notes. The family also thanks the staff at Maquoketa Care Center for the professional and loving care which they have shown Johanna during her stay there.
