Robert Petersen Jr., 61, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
A celebration of his life was held on Friday, October 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin, with the Rev. Pat Slater officiating. Burial was in the Green Center Cemetery, Morley, Iowa, with military honors accorded by the Olin American Legion Blayney Miner Ahrendsen Post #412. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin.
Robert Petersen was born on September 13, 1947 in Anamoa, Iowa, son of Robert Petersen, Sr., and Wanda (Moore) Petersen.
He married Barbara Kaye Jayne on April 6, 1967 in Olin, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2002.
Robert served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Farmstead Foods and PMX Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, and also farmed at Oxford Junction and Olin.
He was a member of the Olin American Legion Blayney Miner Ahrendsen Post #412 and Jones County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by his children, Paula Petersen and Wayne Petersen, both of Oxford Junction; his mother, Wanda Petersen (special friend Gale Williams) of Hale; and two sisters, Connie (Darwin) Betzer of Wyoming, and Kathy (Richard) Close of Robins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve in 1970, his wife, Barbara, and his father Robert, Sr., in 1982.
