Russell Elwin Postel

Russell Postel, 79, died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, where friends may greet the family after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Wilcox Cemetery, Viola. Rev. Katherine Franzenburg will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
Surviving is his wife, Jean; a daughter, Barbara (Cheyenne) Lerch of Anamosa; three grandchildren, Steven Lerch of Anamosa, Molly (Blake) Hubler of Olin and Kelly (Chris) Ainesworth of Cedar Rapids; a great-grandson, Cullen Hubler; two brothers, Curt (Lou) Postel of Santa Rosa, Florida and Bing (Dorothy) Postel of Anamosa; and a sister-in-law, Mary Postel of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William, a sister, Lois Smith, and a brother, George.
Russell Elwin Postel was born November 3, 1937, in Jones County. He was the son of Lyman and Dorothy (Grassfield) Postel. Russell graduated from the Viola High School in 1955. He went to work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. Russ married Jean Ricklefs on August 4, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Russ was a foreman, a department supervisor and finished his career at Collins working in contract management, retiring in 1990. In retirement, he transferred cars for Wayne Hall Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge and played a lot of golf at Fawn Creek.
Russ was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir, served on the church council, and funeral lunch committee. He was also a member of the Anamosa Masonic Lodge and the Chamber Ambassadors.
