Wallace M. Preston
August 5, 1842 – May 18, 1901
Mr. W. M. Preston, for many years a citizen of Monticello, died at the Sanitarium at Anamosa, last Saturday morning. It will be remembered from the account contained in The Express, last week, that he was taken to Anamosa, a few days provious to his death, and placed in the Sanitarium, where it was hoped he might bo partially restored to health. The remains were taken to Sac City, last Monday morning, by Mr. P. O. Babcock, and interred in the cemetery at that place beside the remains of the other members of his family, comprising his wife, four children and two grand-children. Mr. Preston was for many years engaged in the operation of a machine shop at Monticello. His family consisted of a wife and four children. About, twelve or fifteen years ago they moved to Sac county, where his entire family died of consumption. After the loss of his family he returned to Monticello. For several years preceding his death he was iu a partially disabled condition, and unable to do any labor. At the time of his death he was upwards of sixty years of ago. Mr. Preston was the owner of a farm of 100 acres in Sac county, which is represented to have been worth $50 per acre, and which was subject to a small mortgage He has a brother and two sisters to whom it is supposed he willed his property.
