Johanna “Jo” Catherine Redmond Deuker

Johanna “Jo” Catherine (Redmond) Deuker of Burton, Michigan, 85, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davidson, Michigan 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Jo will then travel to Monticello, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 210 East Third Street, Monticello, Iowa 52310; with Fr. Paul Baldwin as the celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018, at Goettsch Funeral Home, 514 West First Street, Monticello, Iowa 52310, and 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Jo will be laid to rest with her family in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello.
Jo was born in Scotch Grove on October 17, 1933, daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna (Dietiker) Redmond. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School Class of 1952. Jo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Findley Hospital and graduated with a post-graduate degree in obstetrics in 1957. Jo was a graduate of Mt. Carmel School of Anesthesia in 1965. In 1983, Jo earned a Bachelor of Human Resources from Spring Arbor University.
She was employed as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at McLaren Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2008 after thirty-eight years of service. In addition, she worked part time in thirteen hospitals. Jo was president of Anesthesia Seminars of Michigan and went to the Philippines with her husband, Bob, on medical missions for fifteen years. Jo was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davidson, Michigan.
She married Robert Deuker on July 19, 1986. Jo was an accomplished ballroom dancer, co-pilot, oil painter, organ and harmonica player, craft designer and orator, speaking at numerous international CRNA conferences. She generously gave to others and surrounded herself with joy. Jo was the epitome of beauty and grace. She was loved by so many and will be very deeply missed.
Jo is survived by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Robert Deuker; two stepchildren, Laurence (Robin) Stevens and Eric (Denise) Deuker; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four siblings, Barbara Martin, Edward (Alice) Redmond, Rita Chapman and Robert (Pat) Redmond; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings, Loretta Tuttle, Lucille Poppe, John Redmond, Earl Redmond, Mary Picary, Agnes Still, Elizabeth Ash, Eugene Redmond and George Redmond.
