| Memorial services for Elaine (Reed) Mitchell, age 86, were held in Miami Springs, Florida. She died at home on January 18, 1988. Interment was at Monticello, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ervin Earnest and Gwendolyn (Doxses) Reed. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and later, Northwest College where she received a degree in piano. Upon her graduation from high school in 1920, she married the Rev. William Hayes Mitchell, who was pastor of the Monticello, Iowa Methodist Church. Together they served churches in Monticello, Sumner, Eldora, Cresco, Waukon, and West Union (all in Iowa).
After her husband retired from the ministry in 1948, they moved to Miami, Florida. She worked at book stores and gave private piano lessons until the time of her husband's death in 1961. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alfreda Miller and Alice M. Reed, a niece and a nephew, all of the Miami area.
