Wanda Lea Reid Becker

Wanda L. Becker, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa.
A celebration of Wanda’s life was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation, Iowa. Visitation was held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial was in the Smithtown Cemetery, rural Lost Nation. Wanda Lea Reid was born at home on February 24, 1931, in Jones County, Iowa to Edwin E. and Frances M. (Post) Reid. She attended country school in Jones County through eighth grade and graduated from Onslow High School in 1948. She then received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls in 1950. She married Arthur Becker Jr., on June 1, 1951 at the Onslow Presbyterian Church in Onslow, Iowa. To this union four children were born; Noel, Rick, and twin daughters Liza and Linda.
Wanda was a farm wife who farmed with her husband in the Oxford Junction area for many years. She managed all of the day to day operations of the farm and the family.
Prior to becoming a farm wife she had taught school for six years in Onslow, Monmouth and Lost Nation. In later years she worked at Sherri’s Tax Service.
Wanda was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation. She enjoyed dancing, and many others enjoyed her cooking. She was a fun loving person who had a spunky, natural and easy sense of humor. Spending time and traveling with her family were Wanda’s favorite things. She loved her grandpuppy “Sammy” dearly. She had a grace filled life and always thought of others first.
Those left to honor Wanda’s memory include her children; Rick (Anna) Becker of N. Barrington, Illinois, Lisa (Bruce) Boldt of Fairfax, Iowa, and Linda Becker of Iowa City, Iowa, a daughter-in-law, Sandy (Mike) Becker Franzen of Monmouth, Iowa; a sister Mary (Pete) Doyle of Bella Vista, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Nathan (Janna) Becker of Monmouth, Beau Becker of Osaka, Japan, Keely Becker of N. Barrington, Ilinois, Jessica Boldt of Chicago, Illinois and Ben Boldt of Cambridge, Massachusetts and one great-grandchild Max Becker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur (1987), a son Noel (2004), a brother Ronald Reid (2010), and a grandson Nicholas Becker (2016).
