Richard E. “Dick” Sanborn

Richard E. “Dick” Sanborn, 87, of Anamosa, formerly of Olin passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Pinicon Place in Anamosa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin where a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery in rural Anamosa with Military rights.
Richard Edward was born on October 18, 1929 in Fairbank, Iowa to Edward Byron and Florence (Whitehead) Sanborn. He graduated from Hazleton High School. On December 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Patty Byers in Hazleton, Iowa. He worked for Wendling Quarries for many years. Richard had served faithfully and honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Olin and the Olin American Legion Blayney Miner Ahrendsen Post #412. Richard served for two terms for the Olin City Council and also the Olin Fire Department for over ten years. He enjoyed playing Bingo, tinkering in the garage and tending to his garden. You could find him having coffee with his friends at Ditto’s Restaurant and socializing with everyone he ran into. His pride and joy were his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of sixty-five years Patty of Anamosa, his children; Marla (Mike) Harter of Fairbank, Brian (Janet) Sanborn of Anamosa; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister Jane Staack of Oelwein and a sister-in-law Connie Sanborn of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father John Brown, two sisters; Phyllis Gallagher and Margaret Turner and a brother John.
