|Donald Schmidt, 69, died Friday, August 25, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 31, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Friends visited with the family from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in the Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Marty Schumacher will officiate at the services.
Surviving is his wife, Leeann; a daughter, Kyleigh, all of Anamosa; a son, Stan Schmidt, Cedar Rapids; and his step-father, Melvin Nealsen, Burbank, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Michael.
Donald Paul Schmidt was born April 2, 1948, at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello. He was the son of Lavern and Doris (Eggers) Schmidt. Don was raised by his uncle Roger Eggers.
He graduated from high school in New York State. Don returned to the Monticello and Anamosa communities, where he was employed at the Iowa Men’s Reformatory for thirty-three years. He retired in 2003. Don then worked as a store greeter at Wal-Mart for five years. Don was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan.
