Lenora Louise Scouten Welch

Funeral services for Lenora L. Welch, 86, were held Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with bur i al in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Duane Ferguson officiated at the services. Lenora L. Welch of Monticello died Tuesday, Sept. 17,1996 at her home following an extended illness. Lenora Louise Scouten was born Feb. 16, 1910 in Cado County, Okla., the daughter of Roy and Ida Ralston Scouten. She graduated from High School in Oklahoma and later took her nurses training in Oklahoma City. Lenora L. Scouten and Manville Welch were married Nov. 22,1933 in Cado County, Okla. The couple made their home for a brief time in Oklahoma before moving to Iowa. The couple farmed in Jones and Clinton Counties before they purchased their farm in Hardscrabble, near Monticello, in 1963. Mrs. Welch had been a member of the Royal Neighbors, the Lovell Homemakers and the Oak Drive Club. Survivors include her husband, Manville; a son, Irie Welch of Monticello, and a daughter, Evalena (Robert) Lang of Hopkinton; three grandchildren, John Lang of Hopkinton, Teresa Lafrenz, Bettendorf and Daniel Lang of Iowa City; three great-granddaughters, Heather, Brandi, Nikole; two sisters, Hazel James of Texas and Marjory Smith of Canyon City, Colo., two sisters-in-law, Alice Cherry of Minco, Okla., Ethyl Scouten of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
