Dorothy Culver 92, of Wyoming passed away on January 1, 2015 at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa.
Her funeral service was held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. Family and friends called Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery.
Dorothy Shannon was born on December 30, 1922 to John and Susie (Johnson) Shannon in Staples, Minnesota. She attended school in Scranton, Iowa. On July 19, 1941 she was united in marriage to Delmar "Stub" Culver in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1945 they moved to Oxford Junction from Pleasanton, California. Delmar and Dorothy owned a pool hall in Oxford Junction until 1961 when they moved to Wyoming, Iowa where they stayed until 2011 when she moved to Cascade. She was a homemaker and made cakes for various occasions.
She was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming and many card clubs. She enjoyed spending her time playing cards, baking, and visiting with family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by one son John "Bob" (Jean) Culver of Delhi; a special friend who was like a daughter to her, Sharon (Mike) Holmes of Delmar; four grandsons; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice "Babe" Gancarz of California, Connie (Al) Lipka of Michigan; two brothers Tom (Marigene) Shannon of Scotch Grove and Wayne Shannon of Oregon; and a daughter-in-law, Diana Zaiger of Wyoming.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Lorraine, one brother Don, a son Gary, and a grandson, Jeff.
