Vernon Lorraine Shedek

Vernon Lorraine Shedek, 99, of Oxford Junction passed away on March 4, 2017 at the Clarence Nursing Home.
His Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service. Burial was held at Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction with Military Rights.
Vernon was born on June 27, 1917 to Louis and Albina (Koranda) Shedek in Iowa. He graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1934. He married Marion Jorgenson on August 5, 1939 in Monticello, Iowa.
He faithfully and honorably served in the United States Navy for three years. Vernon worked as a carpenter, he was a man of many trades.
Vernon was a member of the Wapsi Post 473 of The American Legion in Oxford Junction for over seventy years and was a volunteer fireman for many years. Vernon was a former member of the senior center board, library board and the senior housing board. He always had a big garden and gave produce away to anyone who wanted some.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children; Barbara “Sis” (Gerald) Brauer of Oxford Junction, Gary “Butch” Shedek of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Pat) Shedek of Robins, and Wendy (Andy) Nowachek of Overland, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister Virginia, son Lester, daughter Gerre Zaruba and two granddaughters.
