Gerald (Jerry) Sievers
August 3, 1940–August 28, 1973
Gerald Sievers, 33, of Anamosa, died on Tuesday, August 28. He became ill while working in a grain bin on the Gene Anderson farm eight miles northwest of Anamosa about 10:15 a.m. and was dead on arrival at Anamosa hospital.
Mr. Sievers was born on August 3, 1940, the son of Edwin and Edna (Bickford) Sievers and was raised in this area. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1959. He was married to Judy Bayne of Monticello on August 5, 1961.
He operated Jerry's Garage for nine years and later was employed by Jones County Oil Co., at the Shell Station on East Main. He was in the construction business with his father. He was a Democratic candidate for sheriff in the last election.
Mr. Sievers is survived by his wife, Judy, two sons, Todd and Rickey, and a daughter, Angela; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Sievers; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Sievers and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Matilda Bickford.
Services will be Friday, August 31 at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Anamosa at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Alfred Brosius officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
Knights of Columbus Rosary services were held on Wednesday, August 29 at 8 p.m.
Wake services will be held Thursday, August 30 at 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Gary Teymer, John Walton, George Campbell, Robert Brannon, Alvin Walker and Richard Taylor.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Grassfield, Alan Schnieder, Tom Toner, Dennis Moss, Jerry Koppenhaver and Ron Harms.
