Forrest (Frosty) Glenn Smith

Forrest (Frosty) Glenn Smith of Anamosa passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 1:25 a.m.
Forrest was born in Muscatine on March 22, 1936, the son of Glenn P. and Josephine M. Smith. Forrest graduated from West Liberty High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Navy, retiring after serving for twenty years and achieving the rank of senior chief petty officer. He served on six ships that were homeported on the west coast, as well as two years at Great Lakes, two years at Sasebo, Japan, and three and one-half years recruiting in Minnesota.  His shipboard duties were mainly in the engine rooms. During Vietnam, he served four years on an ammunition ship delivering munitions to ships off the coast of Vietnam.
He married his first wife in 1961 while at Great Lakes.  They had two sons and a daughter, divorcing in 1979. He moved to Anamosa to take a job at the Anamosa State Penitentiary.
Frosty met Betty, and they married in 1989. They traveled the countryside extensively on a Gold Wing motorcycle. In June of 2010, she passed away and he parked the motorcycle.
He is survived by his sons, Gene (Carlene) of Albany, Ore., and Mark (Dana); daughters Janet of Evanston and Sheila (Chad) Machart of Anamosa; grandchildren, McKenzie, David, and Lilly Machart; and one great-grandson, A.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara (Betty); a brother, Keith; and a sister, Bonny Rae.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and National Rifle Association.
