Helen M. Johnson, 99, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction, where friends called from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. The Rev. Greg Steckel officiated. Lahey Funeral and Cremation Services in Oxford Junction handled the arrangements. Burial was in the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.
Helen Mary Sobotka was born on September 20, 1912 in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Stratilek) Sobotka. She graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1930. She married Carroll Johnson in 1944 in Washington, D. C. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1999.
Helen was a manager in many hotel stores. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction. Helen loved painting, singing in the choir and playing games.
Helen is survived by one brother, Arnold Sobotka of Oxford Junction; five nephews, Dick Sobotka of Olympia, Washington, Bob (Diane) Sobotka of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Malvern John of Oxford Junction, Roger (Dora) John of Interlock, Michigan and Jim (Barb) John of Marion; and one niece, Gail Gengler of Portland, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Lumir and two sisters, Pauline and Geraldine.
