Ava J. Streeper Bramer
September 25, 1894 – January 8, 1988
Ava J. Bramer, 93, of Onslow, died Friday, January 8, 1988 at the Americana Healthcare Center in Cedar Rapids.
She was born on September 25, 1894 near Onslow, the daughter of Robert and Etta (Coburn) Streeper. She attended and graduated from Onslow High School in 1910 and taught in the country schools in the Onslow and Wyoming areas. On June 2, 1915, Ava married Fred Bramer at Onslow. She worked as a clerk at Hanold’s General Store in Wyoming and then began working as a telephone operator at the Onslow Telephone Company for several years. She also served as secretary for the Onslow School Board for many years.
In 1979, Fred and Ava went to live with their daughter, Lila, in Cedar Rapids. Fred died in March of 1980, and Ava continued to live with Lila until her death.
Ava was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Onslow, past county president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Wyoming Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lila) Snyder, of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Elma Husmann, Wyoming.
Ava was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 11, 1988 at the First Presbyterian Church at Onslow with the Rev. Ron Grimes officiating. Visitation was at the Hayden Funeral Home in Wyoming. Pallbearers were Harley Anderson, Edward Husmann, Russell Streeper, Thomas Orr, Thomas Gutzeit and Daryl Wherry.
