Patricia Catherine Duwe was born January 29, 1950, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the daughter of James and Juanita (Jack) Strub. She grew up in Lansing, Iowa, where she graduated from Kee High School with the class of 1968. After graduation, she attended business college in Cedar Rapids. In September 1969, she married her husband, Curt Duwe, while he was in the U. S. Army. Their first home was at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, followed by living for a year and a half in Nuremberg, Germany. In Germany, Pat was a Red Cross Volunteer at the 130th General Hospital and worked in a military cafeteria.
Pat and Curt lived for a year in Rockwell. During that time, Pat worked at Risto, Inc., in Mason City. In 1972, they moved to Anamosa, where they raised their two sons, Mike and Brian. Pat worked for over thirty-seven years at Weers Insurance Agency where she was a customer service representative and the bookkeeper. Pat enjoyed getting to know all of her customers and was especially good at remembering nearly everyone’s name. In 2003, Pat and Curt moved to Marion. Pat continued working at Weers until her illness caused her to retire in December 2016.
Pat has had a wonderful life. She was blessed with a loving family, church family, work family, friends of a lifetime, great neighbors, her “prayer warriors,” the medical staff at St. Luke’s Vascular Clinic, the staff of the Ghosh Center, her St. Luke’s Hospice team, and Dr. Vernon. Pat especially enjoyed visits with the grandchildren, daily Bible readings, Sudoku with her morning coffee, all of the travels, adventures, concerts, sporting events, plays, amusement parks, zoos, holiday dinners, and lunches with friends. She was a big Hawkeye basketball and football fan and especially enjoyed playing pinochle with Duwane and Eldora.
Pat is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Curt Duwe, of Marion; two sons, Mike (Melanie) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Brian (Samantha) of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren, Jessica, Konnor, Avery and Jenna of Elizabethtown, and Ryann and Rainer of Denver. Also surviving are her parents, James Strub and Juanita Strub of Lansing; brothers, Lee of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Mary) of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Colin of Lansing, and Aaron of Houston, Texas; sister, Noeline (Ken) Samudio of Elk Rover, Minnesota; brother and sister-in-law, Duwane and Eldora Duwe of Guttenberg; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents-in-law, Larry and Mathilda Duwe; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Berdina Duwe; and sister-in-law, Dorene Walter.
