Jesse Leo "Pete" Sweet
1927 – 2018
Jesse Leo "Pete" Sweet is being laid to rest at Hale Cemetery on September 8 at 11 a.m. at a graveside service with honors.
Son of Claud and Clara Sweet of Hale, Pete died at the age of 91 at his home of thirty-eight years in Houston, Texas. He is survived by five nephews; seven nieces; and a sister, Marjorie Hensen of Lacey, Wisconsin.
Pete went to school in Olin and Hale. In 1945, he joined the merchant Marines where he spent six years in the unlicensed department and two years as a licensed engineer. Pete served in the U. S. Army February 26, 1953, to 1954. He served again in the merchant Marines for several years.
Pete played the accordion at many home gatherings. He had also taken up ballroom dancing for many years with his wife Lucille.
Pete rode his bicycle for the last ten years, sometimes as much as thirty miles a day. He always said he lived a very good and full life.
