James Leroy Walker

James Leroy Walker, 78, of Anamosa, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, May 18, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa.
The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, and again at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa.
James Leroy Walker was born March 9, 1940, in Emmetsburg, the son of Ivan and Hazel (Knudson) Walker. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1958. He was a standout track athlete in high school where he won the state championship in the 800 meter run in 1958. James married Linda Clay in 1959. They had three children, Kimberly, David and Jeffrey. She passed away in 1965. James was united in marriage to Lela Siebels on August 5, 1967. They were blessed with five more children, James, Daniel, Deborah, Mark and Christina.
Over the years, he worked for the Anamosa Creamery, Tyler and Downing Grocery, Sanitary Farm Dairies, Ford Electric, Justice Electric, REM Electric, Monticello Senior Home for twenty-one years, Cottage Grove Place, Lisbon Schools, Silvercrest of Anamosa, and Lebeda Mattress Factory until he retired in 2017. James enjoyed raising horses, chickens and gardening.
James loved the Lord and ministered at the Anamosa Reformatory. He often held services at area nursing homes. He pastored a small church for several years.
James is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Lela; sons, David (Marcia) Walker, Jeffrey (Carolyn) Walker, James (Amy) Walker, Daniel Walker and Mark (Alexandra Stork) Walker; daughters, Deborah (Brian) Chapman and Christina (Steven Krapfl) Walker; a son-in-law, David Chambers; grandchildren, Josh Luchtenburg, Jason Luchtenburg, Jacob Luchtenburg, Tim Chambers, Linda Carnicle, Sarah Luchtenburg, Timothy Walker, Brooke Bohlken, Joel Walker, Brittany Walker, Tiffany Walker, Cole Chapman and Kylie Chapman; thirteen great-grandchildren; and his brother, Donald (Susan) Walker.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Hazel and Jack Norris; a sister, Betty Crawmer; a brother, Kenneth Walker; a daughter, Kimberly Chambers; a grandson, Brian Chambers; and a great-granddaughter, Jewels Chambers.
James loved his family. He attended many sporting, drag racing and music events involving his children and grandchildren. He always had a smile and a joke for everyone he came into contact with. He will be dearly missed.
