Funeral services for Manville Welch, 90, were held Saturday, April 3, 1999 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Manville Welch of Monticello died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. He was born July 14, 1908 in Caddo County, Oklahoma. He received his education in the Emaline, Iowa schools. He returned to Oklahoma for several years where he picked and hauled cotton.
On November 22, 1933, he married Lenora Scouten in Caddo County. The couple farmed in Oklahoma, moving to Cedar Rapids where he worked at Iowa Manufacturing. The couple returned to farming in 1944 and farmed in Jones and Clinton Counties before they purchased their farm in Hardscrabble, near Monticello.
Survivors include a son, Irie Welch of Monticello; a daughter, Evalena (Robert) Lang of Hopkinton; three grandchildren; John Lang of Hopkinton, Teresa Lafrenz of Indianapolis, Indiana; Daniel Lang of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Beulah Darrow of Maquoketa.
He was preceded in death by his wife on September 17, 1996, his parents, a twin sister, Gladys, two other sisters, Thelma Kiburz and Sarah Darrow, and a brother Herman Welch.
