Gladys Wright, 85, formerly of Wyoming and Oxford Junction, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa, Iowa.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Wyoming. Visitation was Thursday, September 25, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral home in Wyoming. Burial was in Wyoming Cemetery.
Gladys Elnora was born on September 23, 1929 to parents Willard and Sarah (Morris) Wright in rural Jones County near Olin. She attended country school in Jones County and graduated from 8th grade in Olin. She attended high school in Olin and Coggon. In 1941 she moved to a farm near Masonville, Iowa. In 1950 she moved to a farm west of Wyoming where she lived for thirty-five years. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1946. Upon graduation she stayed on the farm helping her father with milking the cows, also she took care of her mother who was in ill health for several years.
When her father retired Gladys joined in a partnership with her brother Louis in farming. When Louis retired Gladys worked on the Green Thumb program helping at the Senior Dining Center in Wyoming. In 1987 she moved to Oxford Junction where she resided until 2004 when she moved back to Wyoming for two years until moving to Anamosa Care Center in 2006. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, collecting pig figurines, and cooking.
Gladys is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Wright of Wyoming; nephews Robert (Judy) Denison of Weston, WI, Tim (Beth) Wright of Wyoming; and nieces Kathy (Doug) McCloy of Wyoming, Joanne Zuber of Norway, Iowa and Carol (Jim) Allen of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Louis, Raymond, and Donald Wright, two sisters; Mildred Lucksted and Dorothy Denison, two nieces; Betty Ann Wahlstrom and Judy Ortgiers and a nephew Howard Luckstedt.
