EDITOR'S NOTE: In the back of his ledger he made this note regarding his trip West: "Names of Counties going West - Jones, Linn, Benton, Tama, Marshall, Story, Boone, Carroll, Crawford, Harriss. - CRIP RR Shelby, Pottawattamie, Cass, Adair, Guthrie, Dallas, Madison, polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Muscatine, Scott, Clinton."
spaceGoing to Walnut, I feel that he and Mr. Garrett were working for the railroad, since he shows no railroad fare - this is why he had to go into Nebraska before returning to his original destination of Walnut. This is also substantiated by the May 12 and 13 entries. I believe that Mr Garrett stayed in Wisner since my Grandfather, in his May 14th entry stated that "I started from Wisner...", and Mr. Garrett was never again mentioned or referred to.
spaceThe entire trip cost him less than $12.00. These figures are set down in the back of his journal:
May 5Hotell Billspace.75
May 6Hotell Bill .25
June 3Railroad Fair 8,10
June 3Hotell Bill .70
