Blustering this morning & all day - we was down to W. N. Tippetts to dinner - went down with Will McGlocklin Monday, January 2nd I was down to H. Rays in the morning then home - Mr & Mrs Carr was here to dinner - we had a turkey for dinner - it snowed some Tuesday, January 3rd I was after the mail fore noon then sawed some wood Wednesday, January 4th At home a sawing wood - it thawed a little to day Thursday, January 5th At home - it is misty all day - I finished my wood pile to day - it rained this evening - I am 33 years old to day Friday, January 6th At home all day - I put one new knee in Jack Duffys sled & made a tongue for Tom Keatings sled - In after noon it begun to rain a little Saturday, January 7th I was after the mail to day - Harry Hall & Willie Walters was here - It is colder to day - I received a letter from A. K. Robertson to day & some papers Sunday, January 8th Pleasant - I was at home all day - Oren Snyder was here in the eve Monday, January 9th I was down to the crick in the morning then home - it is snowing this eve Tuesday, January 10th I was down to the crick this morning - Lizzie came home with me - cold to day Wednesday, January 11th 19 below - At home all day - Lizzie was here - pleasant to day Thursday, January 12th I was to the crick untill after dinner - I split some chunks for W. N. Tippett - it began to snow & blow at eleven o'clock - it is a blizzard Friday, January 13th 16 below - it is drifting to day yet Saturday, January 14th 18 below - At home fore noon & down to the crick after noon - no mail to day Sunday, January 15th 30 below - at home all day Monday, January 16th 26 below - At home all day - very pleasant - some of the folks are a shoveling snow & breaking roads Tuesday, January 17th I was to the crick after mail & home - the mail carrier came to the mill & went back Wednesday, January 18th 15 below - at home all day Thursday, January 19th 16 below - I was down to the creek in the fore noon then home again - Wm Tippett is getting his hay drawed home to day Friday, January 20th At home all day Saturday, January 21st 29 below - I was down to the creek after mail then home Sunday, January 22nd 8 below - at home - very pleasant Monday, January 23rd Down to the mill to day - it is the warmest to day it has been for a long time Tuesday, January 24th I was after the mail - came back with Jack Orr Wednesday, January 25th At home - it is a blustering some but it is warm - it drifted a good deal to day Thursday, January 26th I was down to the crick in the fore noon - rode home with Jack Orr - we had to shovel some snow to get to his timber Friday, January 27th At home most all day - Bell & me was up to Mr Carrs after noon - pleasant Saturday, January 28th I was after the mail fore noon - Roy & Willie was here to day - very warm to day - a total eclipse of the moon to night Sunday, January 29th It is very warm but cloudy this morning - I took the children down to the creek - Bell & they stayed all night - Calvin Duke was burried to day - Wm Orr died last night Monday, January 30th I was to Wm Orrs funeral to day - it is very foggy fore noon and it cleared off after noon & thawed some - I came home & stayed alone Tuesday, January 31st I went down after Bell & the children & the mail - it is very nice to day - it thawed more to day than it has this winter before Wednesday, February 1st At home to day - it is very foggy to day Thursday, February 2nd At home to day - it is very foggy to day Friday, February 3rd I was down to the creek fore noon - I was over to Will Mcs after noon a while Saturday, February 4th I was makeing a black board for noon & was down to the creek after noon Sunday, February 5th I went fore noon & painted the black board for Pleasant Hill School House - Lizzie & Jack was here this eve Monday, February 6th I was over to the School House in the morning then went to the creek & mooved a wood pile of wood for W. N. Tippett then home after noon - Henry Neelans & me went over to Mr O'Hallihans after an order - it begun to snow at noon Tuesday, February 7th I was after the mail - It is a snowing hard this morning - it cleared off at 10 o'clock & is very pleasant the rest of the day Wednesday, February 8th 40 below - At home to day - it is pleasant but cold Thursday, February 9th 38 below - at home all day Friday, February 10th 16 below - I was to Ozark fore noon at home after noon - it snowed a little to day Saturday, February 11th 24 below - I was after the mail fore noon - I helped Rockey to load a log & went to the mill with him Sunday, February 12th At home all day - very warm Monday, February 13th I was to Ozark fore noon with eggs came home & went to the creek then home & made a sled roller for W. Reyner - very warm it thawed a good deal to day Tuesday, February 14th Cold to day - I was after the mail fore noon then home afternoon Wednesday, February 15th I was up to Peter Smiths sale all day - cold & pleasant Thursday, February 16th Pleasant - I took my chickens to Cascade Friday, February 17th Pleasant - I was to the creek fore noon - over to Wm Sinkeys after noon then home Saturday, February 18th I went to Onslow on Orens pony - very foggy to day - it thawed some to day Sunday, February 19th We was up to Mr Carrs to dinner - it is very foggy & rained some to day Monday, February 20th At home - it snowed some last night & turned cold - blustering to day Tuesday, February 21st I was down to the mill fore noon - Lizzie came home with me - pleasant & warm Wednesday, February 22nd I begun a wagon box for Johnny Neelans - went to the creek after noon - Harry came home with me Thursday, February 23rd At home makeing wagon box - Ivah was here to day Friday, February 24th I was to the creek in the fore noon - I sold my cow at noon & took her to Garyowen after noon - it began to rain at 3 o'clock - begun to snow in the evening Saturday, February 25th Snowed & blowed all day - it is a bad blizzard - no mail to day Sunday, February 26th It is very blustering all day Wm & Mart Mc was here to dinner Monday, February 27th I put in a sled tongue for Tom Heffron & begun a harrow for Wm McGlocklin - pleasant to day Tuesday, February 28th I went to the creek this fore noon took down some glass jars & crocks then put Johney Neelans wagon box together & choped some wood - thawed some to day Wednesday, February 29th I white washed fore noon choped some wood after noon Thursday, March 1st I was to the creek fore noon - it rained to day & very foggy - I finished Wm Mc harrow Friday, March 2nd I was chopping stove wood for Mrs Carr I cut 2 cords - it snowed a little to day Saturday, March 3rd I was to the creek fore noon cut wood after noon 1 cord - very pleasant to day Sunday, March 4th It is a snowing very hard - W. N. Tippett was here to dinner Monday, March 5th I was at home fore noon then went to the creek & changed W. N. Tippetts hogs to another pen came back & cut some wood Tuesday, March 6th I was to the creek split some wood then came home & cut some wood Wednesday, March 7th I painted Will Mc harrow & went to the creek with him after noon - Jo Orr & Aurilla Ames were married to day Thursday, March 8th At home all day today very warm Friday, March 9th I made a spring seat & begun a wagon box for Will Mc - it rained & snowed to day Saturday, March 10th I was after the mail & home a makeing a wagon box for Will McGlocklin - it snowed & blowed after noon Sunday, March 11th We are a packing things getting ready to moove - our baby born to night 8:30 (editors note: another daughter named Josephine) Monday, March 12th At home all day - Ivah came up this morning is a going to stay all night Tuesday, March 13th Lizzie came up this fore noon is a going to stay Wednesday, March 14th I was to the creek fore noon - Mrs Herrington was here to day Thursday, March 15th I was down to the creek fore noon helping Wm Reyner to rip up some basswood boards - I took Bertie down to Ivahs - I was down after noon again - it is very warm to day Friday, March 16th I was down to the creek a makeing some brackets - very warm - toped the Sugar Bush yesterday & to day Saturday, March 17th I was down to the creek to day a splitting wood & grinding some tools - Lonie Bodenhoffer brought Bertie up home to day - very mudy Sunday, March 18th Charley & Ivah & Aunt Fannie & Bells Mother was here - it is very warm to day Monday, March 19th I was to the creek this morning - split some wood & it began to rain & rained all day - the river is high Tuesday, March 20th I was down to the creek a splitting wood to day - the river is up very high the water is up in the mill Wednesday, March 21st I was over to Reyners this morning then up to Carrs & Heffrons - at home the rest of the day - the wind blowes very hard all day Thursday, March 22nd At home all day - W. N. Tippett & Oren Snyder was here to dinner - Katie Lawless was here after noon a while Friday, March 23rd To the creek in the morning then to Heffrons & Reyners - John Walton was here to dinner - it snowed some this morning Saturday, March 24th I was down to the creek in the morning - Lizzie went home after dinner Sunday, March 25th At home all day - it snowed a little all day from the N.E. Monday, March 26th It is raining this morning - it stoped at 9 o'clock then I went & got Tom Heffrons team & took Bell to the creek - I came back & packed some of our things to moove - Jas Scroggie stayed all night with me Tuesday, March 27th Jim & me went to Mrs Carrs & got breakfast then went to the creek I helped W. N. Tippett to kill one hog & one for C. A. Hall - I came back up home again - stayed all night Wednesday, March 28th I came to the mill in the morning & we made a road scraper - then I moved after noon Thursday, March 29th Barts team took us across the river to I. N. Frenches - we begun work after noon - it snowed some after noon Friday, March 30th We was a frameing all day Saturday, March 31st Finished the sills & lower joice to day - 2 1/2 days this week Sunday, April 1st Up to the place this morning to see whare my yearling was - came back stayed to home Monday, April 2nd We was frameing all day Tuesday, April 3rd I came home to moove my things in whare we live in the fore noon - back after noon Wednesday, April 4th We raised part of the house & the wind blew to hard Thursday, April 5th We finished putting up the joice & was sheating some Friday, April 6th We was sheating all day Saturday, April 7th We cut the rafters & put them up & sheated up the gable ends - 5 1/2 days this week Sunday, April 8th I was up to Mrs Carrs fore noon - we was to Shirleys to dinner Monday, April 9th We was ripping corner boards window & door frames Tuesday, April 10th We was putting up some rafters & sheating fore noon - we went to Onslow after noon Wednesay, April 11th Putting up to cornice & sheating Thursday, April 12th Shingleing some & sheating Friday, April 13th Shingleing & sheating & putting up cornice Saturday, April 14th Shingleing sheating & putting up some cornice Sunday, April 15th I was up to Mr Carrs fore noon - came home & cleaned out the cistern Monday, April 16th I was shingleing to day - cold to day Tuesday, April 17th Shingleing - finished to day Wednesday, April 18th Dressing window frames Thursday, April 19th Dressing window frames fore noon - I went to Mr Beckwiths funeral after noon Friday, April 20th At work fore noon then went up to Robt Snyders & Tom Greens after noon & to the Creamery to a dance Saturday, April 21st To work at the window frames all day Sunday, April 22nd I took my yearling heiffers from Mr Carrs & put them in S. W. Reyners pasture Monday, April 23rd We was makeing window frames - Jane French was sick I went after the Doctor this eve - she has a boy baby - we stayed to Denisons Tuesday, April 24th Will McGlocklin plowed my garden & I planted some Wednesday, April 25th I worked in the garden & split some wood Thursday, April 26th I went up to Ike Frenches this morning - I dressed corner boards & window frames Friday, April 27th I was siding & setting window frames Saturday, April 28th I was siding to day Sunday, April 29th At home all day - it rained most all day steady Monday, April 30th Worked part of the fore noon - Ike Frenches baby died at 10 o'clock - Oren & me went after the cofin Tuesday, May 1st The baby was burried this fore noon - we worked this after noon Wednesday, May 2nd I was siding most of the day Thursday, May 3rd Worked to day - wind blew hard Friday, May 4th Worked to day Saturday, May 5th Worked to day Sunday, May 6th At home all day or most all day I went up to Reyners to salt my calves - Peter Smiths house & barn burned this morning at 2 o'clock Monday, May 7th Went up to Frenches to breakfast - worked all day - it rained Tuesday, May 8th Worked all day Wednesday, May 9th Worked all day Thursday, May 10th Worked all day Friday, May 11th Worked all day Saturday, May 12th Worked on the porch - it hailed to day - it is very cold the river is very high - Bart came after us with the boat Sunday, May 13th At home all day Monday, May 14th I was siding part of the day then worked on the porch Tuesday, May 15th Worked all day Wednesday, May 16th Worked all day Thursday, May 17th Worked all day Friday, May 18th Worked all day Saturday, May 19th We went to Morans to stake out the foundation of his barn - I came home - Tippetts went back to finish putting in the window stops Sunday, May 20th I was up to Mrs Carrs fore noon then home Monday, May 21st We was dressing the caseings for the doors & windows Tuesday, May 22nd I was to Onslow to day with Ike French - worked after noon - Bell went over with Will Ralston Wednesday, May 23rd Worked fore noon & got through until after plastering - I came home to get some axes Thursday, May 24th We begun to hue the poles for Jas Morans barn Friday, May 25th Finished the poles at 9:30 o'clock & came home Saturday, May 26th Up to Tom Greens & up to Mrs Snyders - thare to dinner - she is very sick Sunday, May 27th At home all day Monday, May 28th At home - it rained most of the fore noon Tuesday, May 29th We went up to Morans to take our tools over to Jo Tomlinsons & dident go - Oren & me came home & worked the roads Wednesday, May 30th Oren & me worked the roads all day - rained this evening Thursday, May 31st We went up to Morans this morning put on part of the sills & joices - cut the rafters got through at 5 o'clock Friday, June 1st We finished the rafters at 9 o'clock then tore out thare old porch floor in the fore noon & put in new joices & sills Saturday, June 2nd We put down the porch floor in the fore noon - came home after noon & howed in the garden Sunday, June 3rd We was up to Mrs Carrs to dinner Monday, June 4th At home in the fore noon - howing in the garden - up to Jas Morans after noon Tuesday, June 5th We raised the barn to day Wednesday, June 6th We begun to put on the siding to day Thursday, June 7th We was siding all day & putting up the girts Friday, June 8th We put up some rafters & girting - very warm Saturday, June 9th Finished putting up the rafters to day Sunday, June 10th At home Monday, June 11th We boarded up the gable ends - put on some sheating Tuesday, June 12th Sheating to day Wednesday, June 13th Begun to shingle - it rained a little in the fore noon Thursday, June 14th Putting up the track & shingleing Friday, June 15th Shingleing Saturday, June 16th Shingleing - very warm - we worked 3/4 day Sunday, June 17th I was up to Hefferons & Reyners - I took my heffier to Toms pasture - Mr Tebos folks was here to dinner - the locusts are affel thick Monday, June 18th We finished shingleing at noon then begun to lay some floor Tuesday, June 19th We begun on the ventilators - worked untill noon - rained this fore noon - Aunt Indiana Snyder died last night - we came home after noon EDITORS NOTE: Indiani Snyder was born September 10, 1830 - the daughter of Thomas Harris and Jane Clutter and was the sister of Julia Ann Harris (Tippett) who was the wife of W. N. Tippett and the mother of Bell Howard. Wednesday, June 20th We was to Aunts Funeral to day - thare came up a storm from the South but it did not rain much Thursday, June 21st At work putting up the stalls W. N. Tippett came home Friday, June 22nd Oren & me finished the stalls & made one door & laid some floore Saturday, June 23rd Finished the floor & made 2 doors & put in 2 windows Sunday, June 24th At home most all day - Tom Greens folks was down to day Monday, June 25th Oren & me worked alone to day again - we put up the stanchions Tuesday, June 26th Made one door put in the window & put up part of one ventilator Wednesday, June 27th Finished one ventilator & put up the other Thursday, June 28th Finished work on Jas Morans barn Friday, June 29th We are to I. N. Tippett went to Haynors to work this morning I went after noon Tuesday, August 14th I begun work on the barn Wednesday, August 15th Worked 1 hour then it rained then we worked 2 hours & all after noon Thursday, August 16th Put up the top plates & hung the rafters Friday, August 17th The same to day Saturday, August 18th Put up the lower rafters & sided up the south side - 1 day - 4 1/2 days this week Sunday, August 19th At home all day Monday, August 20th Borded all day Tuesday, August 21st Put up the top joice & plates it rained a little this after noon Wednesday, August 22nd Finished the plates & put up scaffold & hued rafters Thursday, August 23rd Put up the top rafters & borded up the gable ends Friday, August 24th Riped strips for the sheating & begun to shingle after noon Saturday, August 25th Shingleing & sheating all day 6 days this week Sunday, August 26th At home all day Monday, August 27th Putting up hay carrier Tuesday, August 28th Finished the track & put on the rest of the strips around the sheating & put on some Wednesday, August 29th Shingleing all day Thursday, August 30th Finished shingleing at noon put on ridge boards & put in some windows Friday, August 31st Put in some windows & layed floors - dry for 2 weeks no rain very warm the most of the time cool this eve perhaps thare will be frost in the morning Saturday, September 1st Putting up stantions - 6 days this week Sunday, September 2nd At home all day Monday, September 3rd Putting up stantions Tuesday, September 4th Doing the same fore noon making doors after noon Wednesday, September 5th Makeing doors all day Thursday, September 6th Finished the doors & put down floor Friday, September 7th Working at the horse barn - It rained some & haled this eve Saturday, September 8th Put up stalls & manger got through at 3 o'clock - 5 3/4 days this week - I came home sick Sunday, September 9th Sick yet Monday, September 10th It rained to day - I am a little better to day Tuesday, September 11th At home all day - Oren went to work in my place up to B. Lewises this morning Wednesday, September 12th I was helping to clean the Graveyard Thursday, September 13th The first frost this morning - I went to Onslow then up to B. Lewises to work Friday, September 14th I begun work to day Saturday, September 15th Working to day Oren & me went to the Junction this eve Sunday, September 16th At Lewises all day Monday, September 17th Got through at noon & Judd Lewis brought us to D.
